Annalise Wagner Prize 2012
On 17 June 2012, we were awarded the Annalise Wagner Foundation Literature Prize for the Project Folder during a ceremony that was held at Schloss Rattey.
Out of a total of 51 applications and proposals, the jury voted unanimously to award the 21st Annalise Wagner Prize to a “work, which is both firmly rooted in the region and yet looks beyond it to take in universal values”. The jury explained its choice as follows:
"Taking as a starting point a specific and unusual piece of regional history, the authors open up a wider discussion of values in an imaginative, sensory and tangible way: young people are encouraged to explore linguistic, emotional artistic and media avenues into the subject. The ‘building blocks’, educational resources for teachers, are designed to be implemented in ways including discussions, exhibitions, films or radio projects. Anonymous history is here given names and faces – not those of a seemingly ancient period, but of people little older than those they are speaking to today. They learn of suffering, of death, of hope and longing, pride and faith. […] This work, which is both firmly rooted in the region and yet looks beyond it to take in universal values, truly meets Annalise Wagner’s objective, with a highly contemporary interpretation."
Our colleague Ulrike Maschner was also commended for her educational materials dealing with the large external camp in Neubrandenburg.
More on the award ceremony, the speeches and the encomium given by Professor Irmela von der Lühe can be found [in German] on the Foundation website: www.annalise-wagner-stiftung.de under the heading "Preisträger".
